Sales on Avito.
People come here to buy, not to browse. We break down which companies the platform suits, what decides a listing's success and when it makes sense to pay for promotion.
The platform has a reputation as a flea market where private individuals sell each other second-hand goods. That reputation is out of date: today it is also a sales channel for companies — goods, services, property, equipment, jobs.

What Avito is for business
The platform has a reputation as a flea market where private individuals sell each other second-hand goods. That reputation is out of date: today it is also a sales channel for companies — goods, services, property, equipment, jobs.
For a small business it is not “yet another social network”. People come here to buy, not to browse, and that changes everything: there is no need to warm up interest, it is enough to be in the right category with a clear offer.
A separate advantage is the low entry barrier. Some listings are free to post, which means you can test demand without an advertising budget and without a finished website.
Who should be selling here
The platform does not work equally well for everyone. It suits straightforward goods and services with frequent demand best: renovation and finishing, car services, equipment, furniture, machinery, household services, rentals.
It works worse for complex products with a long sales cycle, where the decision is made in meetings and on recommendation. Here the platform can bring contacts, but the main work is done by other channels.
Checking whether you belong to the first group is easy: look at whether there are active competitor listings in your category and how many. An empty category more often means no demand rather than a free niche.
What makes a listing work
- Title — what people find you by in search and what shows in the list. Specifics instead of advertising words.
- Photos — your own, in decent light, from different angles. Stock images in product categories are spotted instantly.
- Description — specifications, terms, what the price includes, lead times. No padding and no caps lock.
- Price — stated. Listings without a price get opened noticeably less often.
- Response speed — here people message several sellers at once, and whoever replies first gets the customer.
The last point matters more than all the others combined. A good listing with a reply a day later loses to an average one with a reply in five minutes.
Profile and reviews
A company card on the platform works the same way as a card on maps: people look at it before they write. A completed profile with a description, contacts, opening hours and a set of listings inspires more trust than a lone listing with no history.
Reviews and rating affect both trust and visibility. Ask for feedback after a closed deal the same way as on any other platform: straight away, briefly and without a reward for the rating.
Negative reviews need replies too. Future buyers read a calm response to a complaint, and it is more convincing than no reviews at all.
On scammers and trust
The risk of running into dishonest users exists on any mass platform, and pretending otherwise is pointless. Simple habits reduce it.
Keep messaging and payment inside the platform rather than moving to outside channels at the first request. Don't send prepayment to unfamiliar sellers. Check the profile, registration date and reviews. Be wary of prices noticeably below market and of requests to share a code from a text message.
For a seller the rules mirror these: don't ship goods before payment, don't read out confirmation codes and don't move the deal to a messenger at the request of a buyer who is rushing you.
Paid promotion
Besides free posting, the platform has paid tools: bumping a listing, highlighting it, extended placement formats for companies.
It makes sense to switch them on once the free side is working properly. Promoting a weak listing with poor photos will simply increase the number of impressions without changing the share of enquiries.
Results should be counted the same way as in any advertising: how much was spent, how many enquiries came in, how many of them became deals. If those three figures don't add up, paid promotion turns into spending blind.
Frequently asked questions
Do you need a website if sales come from the platform?
Preferably. The platform sets its own rules and can change them at any moment, whereas the site stays yours. Besides, some buyers check the company separately anyway.
How many listings should you post?
As many as you have distinct products or services. One “all-in-one” listing is found less easily than several specific ones for different queries.
Should you state a price if it depends on volume?
State at least the lower limit and explain what the final figure depends on. No price at all cuts off some people before they even open the listing.
How do you know the channel pays off?
Ask people who get in touch where they came from and keep simple records: promotion spend, number of enquiries, number of deals. Even a rough count shows the picture.
What to do next
Open your category and look at the first ten competitor listings: titles, photos, prices, descriptions. Then compare them with your own — the difference is usually obvious straight away and shows what to redo first.
